February 2026
LATIN NAME: Scoliopus bigelovii
COMMON NAME: Fetid Adder’s-tongue
FAMILY: Liliaceae
TYPE: Herbaceous Perennial
LOCATION AT BLOEDEL RESERVE: Orchid Woods & Rhododendron Glen
ORIGIN: California
GARDEN USES: Woodland Garden
FUN FACT: With limited pollinators around the gardens this time of year, this member of the lily family relies on fungus gnats for pollination and ants for seed dispersal. These intricately detailed flowers have been described by some as having a “foul” scent, thus earning its common name as the Fetid Adder’s-tongue.
