Mia Mulvey, Multi-Media Artist & Educator
In residence, February 2-23

This February, Bloedel Reserve welcomes artist and educator Mia Mulvey as a Creative Resident. Mulvey’s practice is rooted in close observation of the natural world, exploring the relationships between environment, material, and emerging technologies. Her work examines how landscapes record time, respond to climate change, and shape our understanding of place.

Mulvey is a Professor of Studio Art at the University of Denver. She earned her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and her BFA from Arizona State University. Her work has been exhibited nationally at institutions including the Denver Art Museum, the American Museum of Ceramic Art, the ASU Ceramic Research Center, and Goodwin Fine Art. She is a recipient of a Colorado Council on the Arts Fellowship and a University of Denver PROF Grant, and has completed residencies at Kohler Arts in Industry in Wisconsin, Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark, The Arctic Circle in Svalbard, and The Montello Foundation in Nevada.

Working across ceramics, digital media, and field research, Mulvey combines scientific tools such as 3D scanning and environmental data with traditional ceramic processes. As part of her residency, she will lead Rooted in the Land: Science, Materials & Creative Process, sharing research from Bloedel Reserve and projects developed in the Arctic, the Western U.S., and Europe, and introducing a non-toxic alternative photography process grounded in environmentally conscious practices.

During her residency, Mulvey will explore the Reserve’s winter landscapes, using the season to observe subtle environmental shifts and continue her research into climate systems, geological time, and ecological memory. Learn more about Mulvey. Don’t miss her class, Rooted in the Land, being held at the Reserve on Feb. 20.
