FUN FACT: Covered in drooping catkins, this native deciduous shrub reminds us there are still flowers to enjoy this time of year no matter how small! The genus name comes from the Greek word korylos, meaning helmet, referring to the “beaked” husk on the nut. Adding this shrub to your woodland border will be one the first nectar sources for pollinators come spring and will also help provide an important food source for squirrels and other wildlife in your garden.
