New Visitors: Beavers at Bloedel

Over the last several years, staff and volunteers have noticed possible signs of Washington’s largest rodent: the North American beaver (Castor canadensis). Teeth marks, sheared bark, and downed branches were noted on multiple trees around the Buxton Bird Marsh and Pollinator Meadow, but never the mammal itself.

Finally, our wildlife cameras have captured our nocturnal newcomer on film! Haley Wiggins, Gardens South Manager, notes that this visitor has returned multiple times. Please let us know if you see our orange-toothed friend!
