Plant of the Month
March’s Plant of the Month
LATIN NAME: Edgeworthia chrysantha
COMMON NAME: Paperbush
FAMILY: Thymelaeaceae
TYPE: Deciduous shrub
LOCATION AT BLOEDEL RESERVE: Rhododendron Glen
ORIGIN: China
GARDEN USES: Woodland Garden
FUN FACT: Covered in umbelliferous clusters of small, tubular yellow flowers, Edgeworthia releases a rich, sweet fragrance that drifts through the Rhododendron Glen in late winter. Native to woodland habitats of the Himalayas and parts of China, this deciduous shrub brightens the garden when little else is in bloom. The genus Edgeworthia honors Irish-born botanist Michael Pakenham Edgeworth and his half-sister, writer Maria Edgeworth.
