From Our Backyard to Yours
9/11/2020 — Welcome to this “virtual visit” to Bloedel Reserve.
Now that Bloedel Reserve is once again open for visitors, we will be updating our Backyard page twice a month, instead of once a week. Keep checking back for new behind-the-scenes and around-the-grounds stories, photos, videos, and more.
Horticulture & Design:
Autumn in the Air
That pleasing, sweet scent in the autumn air isn’t blooming flowers. It’s the Katsura Tree in the Japanese Garden. To read more about this lush specimen and its distinctive fragrance, click here.

Creativity & Inspiration:
Accepting Applications for the 2021 Creative Residency Program
The Creative Residency program provides artists and innovative thinkers with a three-week stay on the Bloedel Reserve grounds — offering a truly unique opportunity to create, ponder, and dream immersed in nature. Online applications are now open for 2021 residencies and will be taken through October 1, 2020. For all the details and deadlines, click here.
Nathan DiPietro: A Welcome Return!
Painter and VR artist Nathan DiPietro will be in residence this month to continue his work creating 3D digital paintings of the Reserve. His residency in March was cut short due to our COVID closure. To read more about Nathan and see video clips of some of his work, click here.
