From Our Backyard to Yours
7/10/2020 — Welcome to this week’s “virtual visit” to Bloedel Reserve.
Horticulture & Design:
Florals in Bloom
A few weeks ago, we told you about the new flower beds that were being created around the Bloedel Reserve Floral Workshop, where the gorgeous arrangements for the Residence are created. We thought you’d like to see what’s in bloom in our cutting gardens right now.
Creativity & Inspiration:
Kimberly Trowbridge
Painter Kimberly Trowbridge has been a past Creative Resident at Bloedel Reserve and this year was named the Creative Residency program’s first Creative Fellow. Over the last several months, she has been creating a new website and working on the large-scale paintings that will be the focus of her exhibition, which is slated to open in October at Bainbridge Island Museum of Arts. She is spending time at the Reserve during the month of July to continue that work.
Nature & Well Being:
Stroll at Home for Your Health
Our Strolls for Well-Being program is an onsite series of themed walks around the Reserve designed to promote personal growth and good health. Because COVID-19 has kept us from offering this popular program onsite, we took those themes and developed Strolls at Home — 12 walks that you can do wherever you are, at your own pace.

Horticulture & Design:
The Beauty of Bark
When we’re looking up at trees, it’s easy to miss one of their most distinctive features — the bark that covers them. Bloedel Grounds & Horticulture team member Darren Strenge takes a closer look at this protective, versatile and beautiful covering in The Beauty of Bark.
July Plant of the Month:
Puget Sound Gumweed
For the month of the July, we are featuring the Puget Sound Gumweed. This bright wildflower plays an important role in the Buxton Bird Marsh & Meadow.
