Minding the World: Writing the Natural Moment at the Bloedel Reserve Japanese Guesthouse

Held in partnership with BARN, this workshop takes place at the Bloedel Reserve Japanese Guesthouse and combines writing and attending to the natural world as practices that can help both with creativity and well-being. Whether you are seeking to generate new work, finding the ways writing and mindfulness can combine to promote well-being, or wanting to find the shape of a project already underway, this workshop welcomes you.

We’ll talk about ways to take the approach offered in the session and adapt them to your ongoing life. We’ll be inspired in our work by short poems, mindfulness practices and exploration of the natural world.

Open to writers of all levels; No writing or mindfulness experience is necessary.

Naomi speaks about her teaching work:  Since 2015, with the initial encouragement of a Knight Arts Challenge grant, I’ve specialized in empowering the voices of older adults and people living with disabilities through writing workshops in community settings (libraries, senior residences and programs, public housing residences). I’ve also taught since 2002 on craft, creativity, professional writing, strategic direction and other topics.
