We are delighted to stage this Ikebana show as we celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the founding of the Sogetsu School by flower master Sofu Teshigahara. Like his European contemporaries who became impressionist artists, Ikebana masters followed a similar path. While steeped in the philosophy and principles of classical Ikebana, they explored a more improvisational approach to design. Sofu taught his students to design not just what they saw with their eyes, but more from what they felt in their hearts. His European counterpart, Pablo Picasso put this beautifully, “If you want to draw, you must first close your eyes and sing.” Please come visit the show and see how Charles Coghlan and his students have played with the flowers. They never cease to amaze!!
