Digitally Capturing Nature in 3D
April 17 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
From Reality to Imagination: Digitally Capturing Nature
Join Creative Resident Garrett Nelli for a workshop exploring how 3D scanning technology can deepen our connection to the natural world. The experience begins with a guided mindfulness practice led by yoga instructor Kenzie Bicher, inviting participants to attune their senses to the light, textures, sounds, and scents of the garden in bloom.
Following this grounding experience, participants will work alongside Garrett to digitally capture natural elements of the garden. Using a mobile phone or digital camera, blossoms, leaves, bark, and fragments of the landscape will be recorded in three dimensions, preserving the ephemeral beauty of the season.
These collected scans will be inventoried and compiled into a larger imaginative artwork developed during the residency (see an example of a Japanese Maple in fall colors here). Participants will leave with new technical skills and a renewed appreciation for how technology can enhance our connection to nature.
