PLANT OF THE MONTH

April 2024

Latin Name:  Prunus serrulata ‘Shiro-fugen’

Common Name:  Mt. Fuji Cherry

Family:  Rosaceae

Type:  Deciduous tree

Origin:  South America and Southeast Asia

Location at the Bloedel Reserve:  Arboretum Meadow

Garden Uses:  Border plantings, specimen tree

Fun Fact:  Planted in the early 1980s, this specimen flowering tree has been one of our Staff favorites. A pair of these trees were moved from next to the Japanese Guesthouse out into the meadow, however only this single specimen survived. To truly enjoy it, we encourage guests to follow our newly mown, winding ephemeral trail located below the Pine Arboretum and Arrival Garden.
