PLANT OF THE MONTH

March 2023–Primula vulgaris

Latin Name:  Primula vulgaris

Common Name:  Primrose

Family:  Primulaceae

Type:  Herbaceous perennial

Origin:  Western Asia and Southern Europe

Location at Bloedel Reserve:  Rhododendron Glen

Garden Uses:  Groundcover

Fun Fact: Primula, meaning “little earliest one”, is easily one of our staff’s favorite reminders that spring is almost here! In the gardens at Bloedel Reserve, we have several different displays with colors varying from pink, white, cream, yellow, and purple. These often-fragrant flowers will continue to bloom for over a month and thrive on stream borders and consistently moist woodland gardens.
