Bridgette Grey, Volunteer Interview

April 5, 2022 by Kimi Kinoshita

Bridgette Grey, an Indianola resident, has been a volunteer as a docent, with special events, and as a tour guide.  The Bloedel Reserve holds a special place in her heart.  Within 10 days after retiring as an investigative detective for Maricopa County in Arizona, Bridgette’s  father passed away.  It was at the Bloedel Reserve that Bridgette found both peace and happiness.  “Because I found a beautiful place that meant a lot to me, I wanted to share it with others.”  She was surprised and amazed at how many people didn’t know about Bloedel, including those on the island.  “I decided to learn as much as I could so that I could share something that meant so much to me in this critical time of my life.  I had discovered the healing power of nature.”

Bridgette loves to travel internationally and has visited 39 countries.  She is a consummate learner and forever curious.  She loves exploring other cultures, traditions, religions and bringing that knowledge back and sharing it with people so that they might like learning those things as well.  While Bridgette loves people and feels a strong desire to be useful and helpful, she loves her peaceful and quiet time as well.

“I think Bloedel Reserve is special because the place is so far ahead of its time.  Mr. Bloedel created a place where people could experience the healing powers of nature.  The space here can be so many things for what the visitor needs it to be.”
