About the Artist

A much-published poet, editor and lecturer, Cedar Sigo is currently a mentor in the MFA program at Institute of American Indian Arts and we are thrilled to welcome him to Bloedel Reserve as our March Creative Resident. The Seattle Met recently published three of his poems in their poetry series; they can be enjoyed here. Cedar will be hosting a reading, conversation, and book signing event at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art on March 9th; register here.

He studied at The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at the Naropa Institute. In 2022 he received an artist’s award from The Foundation for Contemporary Arts. Cedar is the author of endless books and pamphlets of poetry, including All This Time (Wave Books, 2021), Stranger in Town (City Lights, 2010), Expensive Magic (House Press, 2008), two editions of Selected Writings (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2003 and 2005) and most recently, Siren of Atlantis (Wave Books, 2025). Watch a short video about the writing of Siren of Atlantis and also listen to a poem from Siren of Atlantis narrated by Cedar.

After living in San Francisco for many years, Cedar has returned to Washington State and currently resides not far from the Suquamish reservation on which he grew up. We at Bloedel Reserve express deep gratitude towards the Suquamish People, People of the Clear Salt Water, for sustaining the land within which our healing landscapes thrive.
