| $10Enchantment: The Liberatory Gift of Wonder
Poetry Workshop with Creative Resident, Lisbeth White
Before capitalism, humans created–song, art, dance, poetry, rituals–…because we wanted to acknowledge something divine beyond us. Because we were overflowing with an abundance of [awe] and we desired to gift that in tangible forms to our communities, no matter how ephemeral or fleeting.
– Yumi Sakugawa
Wonder and enchantment are often the primary gateways into our art. Not only do they open our curiosity about the subjects of our writing (painting, dancing, etc.), but these creative lenses deepen our capacity for relationship with what has captured our imagination, and thus, deepen our capacity to be more articulate and empathic witnesses to the world. However, it can be very challenging to maintain access to these creative lenses in a product and consumer focused culture, not to mention in a conflict-riddled world.
This is an experiential workshop for creatives of all types who want to reconnect with the magic of the creative impulse and explore how enchantment allows us to surrender more deeply into the living heart of our art. All levels and modalities of art-making/creative experience are welcome!
In this workshop, we will spend time in guided meditation, somatic exploration, and reverie with the natural world to connect to the experience of enchantment. Journal prompts will offer us space to reflect and to share, as desired.
Participants are asked to bring four small objects that represent the four elements–earth, air, fire, and water– along with cozy layers for meditation, and a writing or arts journal. We will also have the option to spend time outdoors.
