March 2022: Erika Lynne Hanson
Explore Bloedel Reserve through the art, writings, and uniques perspectives of the Creative Residents during the time they are visiting the grounds. These entries give you a peek at works-in-progress, sources of inspiration, approaches to craft, exploration of new techniques, and more.
Participants of Erika Lynne Hanson’s plein air workshop in March, Walking & Drawing, wandered the Reserve on a rainy Saturday observing nature. By focusing on the interdependence of species and their symbiotic relationships, we studied and drew in a meditative space. Blind contour drawing encourages the maker to focus on the object, rather than looking down at the paper. What evolves are a series of gestural markings connected to the essence of the object of observation.
