SUMMARY:Nature and the Book: 2025 Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Nature and the Book: 2025\nSponsored by Puget Sound Book Artists \nBloedel Reserve is pleased to present “Nature and the Book: 2025”\, a compelling exhibition showcasing the work of artists whose creative practices are deeply inspired by the natural world. This exhibition highlights the dynamic intersection between nature\, art\, and the printed page\, exploring themes of sustainability\, climate change\, and the inherent beauty found in the environment. Locating this exhibit in the Founders’ former residence at the Reserve pays homage to their passion for collecting books focused on the natural world. The exhibit is organized by the Puget Sound Book Artists (PSBA) organization and Bloedel Reserve. \nFrom intricate depictions of plant life to reflections on ecological change\, the pieces in this exhibit use the book form as a medium to express both the fragility and resilience of our natural surroundings. Artists have drawn upon their unique environments in the Pacific Northwest and beyond\, bringing attention to the patterns\, colors\, and textures found in the flora and fauna that surround us. \nIncluded in the exhibit are former creative residents of the Reserve including Lou Cabeen\, Pamela Wachtler-Fermanis\, Catherine Alice Michaelis and Jan Dove. \nPSBA\, now in its 15th year\, is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to creating a spirit of community among book artists and those who love books. PSBA members use a wide variety of creative means and methods to create interactive artist books that delight the viewer\, convey an idea\, communicate an experience\, express a concern\, spark a conversation\, and tell stories. \nWHERE\nThe Residence at Bloedel Reserve \nWHEN \nMarch 4 – April 27\, 2025\nWinter hours are Tuesday – Sunday 10 AM-4 PM; last entry is 90 minutes before closing \nCOST\nFree with admission to Bloedel Reserve. Timed tickets are available for advance purchase online here. \nNot a member yet? Join here \nDon’t miss a panel discussion with some of the artists on April 1 – details here. \nMeet one of the curators\, Jane Carlin\, at the Residence on March 22 or April 2.

SUMMARY:Warm Up Week Awesome Praise Gospel Choir Concert
DESCRIPTION:Warm up this week with Awesome Praise Choir\nVisit Bloedel Reserve on Sunday\, December 15 at 2 PM to hear Awesome Praise Community Gospel Choir sing gospel tunes in the Residence Library. \nAwesome Praise was founded in 2002 by Flora Josephine DeWalt-Stevenson\, a seasoned gospel choir workshop participant and member of Bremerton’s Sinclair Missionary Baptist Church choir. She envisioned a Kitsap community gospel choir from many churches and beyond. Over the years the choir has become fuller in sound and more diverse in participants from many faiths and backgrounds\, ranging in age from 12 to 83. They now comprise a core group of about 15\, sometimes including a drummer and a guitarist\, from all over Kitsap County and from Gig Harbor and Seattle. \nThis special event is included with your admission ticket; no registration is required.

SUMMARY:COBI BI Reads Mindfulness Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness Meditation\n“If we surrendered to the earth’s intelligence\, we would rise up\, rooted like trees.”\n–Rainer Maria Rilke \nNature\, meditation\, and poetry…Nature provides the perfect setting for us to connect; to ourselves\, to the earth\, and to each other. Meditation is an invitation to practice compassionate awareness and acceptance of who we are and what is. And poetry can inspire us\, can move us to discover something about ourselves\, the earth\, and all that dwell on it. Juliana Perez is a spiritual counselor\, mindfulness meditation coach\, and a lover of poetry and nature. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Bloedel Reserve\, Juliana will lead a mindfulness meditation in the Japanese Guest House incorporating poetry that speaks to the wisdom inherent in nature\, and in our very beings. \nFor these two special events\, the mindfulness meditation will be based on BI Read’s selection A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki. Space is limited to 15 people. The event is located at the Japanese Guesthouse at Bloedel Reserve. \nThis event is free.
