SUMMARY:Fall Strolls Program
DESCRIPTION:Deepen Your Connection With Nature\nStrolls for Well-Being is a complimentary seasonal program at Bloedel Reserve that supports connection with nature through a series of 12 self-guided walks. \nWe invite those interested in deepening their connection to nature to join\, and no experience or special knowledge is needed. New participants receive a guidebook with instruction and inspiration for 12 distinct mindfulness-based walks through the Reserve. Each walk is built around a theme such as joy\, awareness\, or gratitude\, and the walks are designed around locations within the Reserve. \nParticipants become part of a small group that meets three times during the program\, for an orientation\, mid-point check-in\, and closing meeting. The meetings provide an opportunity to hear from others and share experiences. \nAfter the orientation meeting\, people in the program will receive a guidebook and be ready to begin. The program is designed to be self-paced\, and participants choose when and how to engage with the walks. Everyone in the program receives a complimentary 6-month membership to Bloedel Reserve\, which provides Timed Ticket entrance when booked in advance. \nFall Strolls for Well-Being Program: September 13-December 9\, 2023 (12 weeks) \nRegistration for the Fall Strolls for Well-Being program will open on August 14. Please sign up for one of the orientation meetings here in order to be registered for the Strolls for Well-Being program. \nDue to the popularity of this program\, participation in the Strolls program is offered to NEW participants only.

SUMMARY:Plein Air Painting Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:The Bloedel Reserve Plein Air Program is pleased to bring together some of the finest Plein Air artists in the region. In 2023\, the Reserve is offering several days of painting on the grounds\, including two days of Masterclass mornings with afternoon time to paint on the grounds. \nAugust 22\, 11 AM-4 PM – All Levels Welcome\nPlein Air Masterclass with Darrell Anderson assisted by Gigi Godfrey \nLimit 10 participants\n$130 Members\n$170 non-members (includes admission) \nMasterclass participants will gather at the Arrival Garden between 10:30 AM and 10:45 AM and head up to a behind the scenes location for the class. The class may include a mixture of live demonstration\, conversation\, and painting. \nTickets in advance are required for the event. \nTICKETS\nClass Description:\nWhat is the One Thing you Need for a Successful Painting?\nThis class is open to anyone who has had at least one class in beginning painting and they know what basic colors to use and has a portable field palette. \nAs artists we are all beginners in some way. I will show you a plein air technique that has brought me more success and fewer frustrations than any other method. This one-day workshop will be structured to take advantage of our limited time. We will begin by talking together and exploring where each of us is in our painting quest. I will then explain my demo and the technique I’ll suggest you use. While together\, you’ll have time to give it a quick try before I release you to find your own spot of landscape inspiration. For the rest of the time\, your instruction will be individualized to your skill level and goals. This is a ‘no fail’ course. Because our mistakes are just doorways to success\, we can all learn from each other and ourselves. \nDarrell instructs in oil\, acrylic\, gouache\, casein\, watercolor\, pastel\, and markers. A supply list will be sent to registrants. Please also have a sack lunch and water bottle. \nLearn more about Darrell Anderson here.

SUMMARY:Robin Dru Germany Workshop
DESCRIPTION:For the Macro Photographer who wants more Macro\nJoin Creative Resident Robin Dru Germany for a workshop on macro camera techniques. Limit 10 students. \nSaturday\, July 8\, 10:45 AM-12:15 PM \nInsects\, plants\, flowers have remarkable details yet it can be difficult to see them all fully in a photograph. Focus stacking is a technique that allows the photographer to record multiple focus levels and combine them together into one image with spectacular detail throughout. For this workshop\, Dru will demonstrate two different ways to create a deeply focused image using both manual and automated camera techniques\, and both photoshop and a focus stacking plug-in. The process is easy\, if time consuming\, but fascinating to see all those miniscule parts of the insect become visible and accessible. Learn more about Robin Dru Germany here. \nCheck in at the Arrival Garden between 10:30 AM and 10:40 AM. \nWorkshop will begin at 10:45 AM in the Japanese Guest House. \nFree with admission to Bloedel Reserve. \nTickets are required for the event. \nEVENT TICKETS

SUMMARY:Just for Members: All About Bats
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about bats in the Buxton Bird Marsh!\n\nFree. Member registration required. Space is limited to 12. Meet at the Arrival Garden for your walk. \nIn partnership with Bats Northwest and the Woodland Park Zoo\, Bloedel Reserve is offering a special opportunity to meet a team of bat biologists and conservationists when they set up acoustic monitoring equipment in the Buxton Bird Marsh. The acoustic equipment is installed for one night and collected the following day\, and the recordings are used to identify bat species\, which have distinct acoustic signatures. The team has offered to speak briefly about bats and their program\, and to answer bat questions that attendees might have. \nLast year\, two bat species were recorded at the bird marsh – the little brown bat (Myotis lucifugus) and California myotis (Myotis californicus). The number of recorded bat passes at the bird marsh was significantly higher than the other sites that the scientists monitor\, and the little brown bat was an exciting species to capture since east coast populations have been decimated by white-nose syndrome\, a serious threat to many North American bat species. \n\nTimed tickets are required for the event. \nEVENT TICKETS
