SUMMARY:Introducing the Speckled Scratchers
DESCRIPTION:Meet our baby chicks!\nAt the Sheep Sheds on Sundays 1-4 PM\nMarch 24 & 31 and April 7\, 14 & 21 \nAnticipation is high for the arrival of Speckled Sussex chickens at the Reserve this spring. As part of the sustainable land management strategy\, these chickens will play a vital role in clearing an 800 sqft area within the Buxton Bird Marsh and Pollinator Meadow this summer. Until the chicks are old enough to safely forage in their special enclosure in the Meadow in June\, they are being housed at the Sheep Sheds. \nVisitors have multiple opportunities to learn more about these baby chicks and this Meadow management project from dedicated Staff and Volunteers. Please keep in mind that these are growing animals and should only be admired from afar\, under supervision. For health and safety reasons\, please do not touch the chicks! \nThe opportunity to see the chicks is included with your timed ticket admission; no separate registration is required.

SUMMARY:Creative Residents Taha Ebrahimi and Allison Kudla Workshop
DESCRIPTION:November Creative Residents Taha Ebrahimi and Allison Kudla Workshop\nJoin collaborating Creative Residents Taha Ebrahimi (author of upcoming book Street Trees of Seattle) and artist Allison Kudla on an in-depth guided tour and treasure hunt for leaves in the peak of their autumnal beauty that will become the raw materials for a collaborative art piece. \nThursday\, November 9\, 11 AM-1 PM \nMaps have long been used to shape dominant perspectives of places\, spaces and people. By design\, maps also discount the intangibles of lived experience and biases in the practice of cartography and data collection itself. Participants will be provided a hand-drawn map and a leaf collection bag\, inviting them to take a break from their digital world to embrace an analog\, inexact approach to finding and identifying specific trees at the Bloedel Reserve. \nThe fallen leaves collected by participants will then be used as the material for a companion piece created by Allison Kudla. She will share a method that intersects computer-aided design\, laser cutting and traditional leaf preservation techniques to create a collective representation of the algorithmic design of leaf venation patterns from the collected leaves. Each journey becomes the material of the work\, challenging the notion of uniform representations of time and experience. \n$10 with admission to the Reserve \nMeet at the Arrival Garden for your walk. \nTICKETS

SUMMARY:8-Week Grief Support Group Fall
DESCRIPTION:Join us\nBloedel Reserve and Island Volunteer Caregivers are pleased to announce 2023 dates for Grief Support Groups meeting in the tranquil setting of the Japanese Guest House. \nThis year we will offer three 8-week sessions. These 8-week programs meet weekly on Thursday afternoons from 1-3 PM. Between sessions\, participants are encouraged to use the Strolls for Well-Being Walks. Participants will receive a Strolls guidebook and a 6-month membership to Bloedel Reserve. These groups fill fast; please email rgaphni@bloedelreserve.org to be added to the wait list. \n2023 Dates\nWinter: February 9-March 30\nSpring/Summer: April 20-June 8\nFall: September 28-November 16 \nTed Rynearson MD\, who has over 40 years of experience working with the bereaved\, and Robin Gaphni M.A\, who has worked with the bereaved for 10 years\, will facilitate the group. Together they will provide a safe environment for people so they can move through the difficult emotions surrounding their grief. Through a combination of sharing stories\, deep listening and grief education\, people will be encouraged to honor their grief and integrate their losses so that they can go on to find continued meaning in their lives. \nGroup size is limited to 8 participants. There is no charge to participate in the group\, and all participants attend a pre-screening interview. Current COVID protocols will be observed at all times.
