SUMMARY:Mindfulness Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness Meditation\n“If we surrendered to the earth’s intelligence\, we would rise up\, rooted like trees.”\n–Rainer Maria Rilke \nNature\, meditation\, and poetry…Nature provides the perfect setting for us to connect; to ourselves\, to the earth\, and to each other. Meditation is an invitation to practice compassionate awareness and acceptance of who we are and what is.  And poetry can inspire us\, can move us to discover something about ourselves\, the earth\, and all that dwell on it. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Bloedel Reserve\, participants will be lead in a mindfulness meditation in the Japanese Guest House incorporating poetry that speaks to the wisdom inherent in nature\, and in our very beings. \nJoin us in the Japanese Guest House the first Wednesday of the month\, March through December. Sessions begin at 10:15 AM and will last 45 minutes\, including pre and post gathering and discussion time. Please dress comfortably and plan to meditate for 20-30 minutes\, seated in a chair. \nCost is $15 and includes admission to the Reserve. Donations for admission are gratefully accepted on pay-what-you-wish Welcome Wednesdays. \nTICKETS

SUMMARY:The Weird in the Wild: Exploring Eco Poetry with Creative Resident Caitlin Scarano
DESCRIPTION:The Weird in the Wild: Exploring Eco Poetry\nAn Eco Poetry Workshop with Creative Resident Caitlin Scarano \nMay you study the pink of yourself. Know yourself riverine and coast. May you taste the fresh and the saltwater of yourself and know what only you can know. May you live in the mouth of the river\, meeting place of the tides\, may all blessings flow through you.\n-Alexis Pauline Gumbs\, Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals \nThis poetry workshop is for poets of any stage and background who want to explore the complexity\, queerness\, and surreality of nature and ecology through poetry. Even if you’re new to nature writing or poetry\, this course welcomes you! \nIn this workshop\, we will consider the question of what eco-poetry (also known as natural poetry) is and can be\, especially in the current temper of our times\, by reading a sampling of contemporary writers of a variety of backgrounds and styles. We’ll look at the ways those writers use specific techniques of poetry and lyricality to engage with the natural world\, ecology\, and place. \nWe’ll talk about how to represent the strange wildness inherent in nature and how it can help us connect with the wildness inherent in ourselves. Then we’ll write (with the option to share!) some of our own eco-poems through on-site interactive writing prompts that will get us out into Bloedel Reserve. \nLearn more about Caitlin here. \nWHERE\nThis event is held indoors at the Japanese Guest House and will involve time outdoors as well. \nWHEN\nWednesday\, September 4\, 12:30 PM–4 PM \nCOST\n$15 \nDonations of any amount are gratefully accepted on Welcome Wednesdays when you purchase tickets to the workshop. \nTICKETS
