Bloedel Reserve\, as you find it today\, was created through decades of careful design and millennia of botanical endurance and evolution from around the globe. Prentice Bloedel worked in close collaboration with horticulturalists\, landscape designers\, and architects who were inspired by international traditions and ancient aesthetics. Influences from Europe and Asia intertwine seamlessly with the spirit of the Pacific Northwest\, creating a landscape devoted to reflection\, quiet contemplation\, and inspiration. Plantings combine native species with imported botanicals\, including extraordinary “living fossils\,” plants so ancient they resemble their prehistoric ancestors from as far back as 250 million years ago. \nThis exhibition offers a sampling of the many varieties of plants with international lineages which can be found here. We invite you to take yourself on a treasure hunt and see if you can find them in our gardens. DESCRIPTION:Stroll into Summer…\nStrolls for Well-Being is a complimentary\, seasonal program at Bloedel Reserve that supports connection to nature through a series of 12 self-guided walks. \nWe invite anyone interested in finding new ways to nurture this connection to join the program. New participants receive a guidebook with instruction and inspiration for 12 distinct mindfulness-based walks through the Reserve. Each walk is built around themes such as awareness\, joy\, and gratitude\, and the walks are designed around the distinct garden spaces. \nParticipants become part of a small group that meets three times during the program\, for an orientation\, mid-point check-in\, and closing meeting. The meetings provide an opportunity to hear from others and share experiences. DESCRIPTION:Bard at Bloedel: Twelfth Night\nTICKETS\nWe’re proud to partner with Bainbridge Performing Arts to present Twelfth Night at Bloedel Reserve. \nAUG 8 – AUG 23\nAll shows begin at 7 PM\nAt Bloedel Reserve \nDIRECTED BY ELIZABETH ALUM \nGeneral Admission Tickets: $35\nSenior/Military/Student Tickets: $30 \n\n\nARRIVING \nBloedel Reserve is located at 7571 NE Dolphin Drive. Please arrive after 6 PM to allow other visitors time to leave. Patrons who wish to arrive earlier\, set up their blankets and chairs and then walk through the Reserve need to purchase an afternoon timed ticket slot through our website here: https://bloedelreserve.org/tickets/  \nSEATING \nTwelfth Night will be held at the Sheep Sheds\, about 1/8 mile down the main trail leading to the Buxton Bird Marsh. Patrons are advised to bring low lawn chairs or blankets\, please note there is limited blanket seating available. Staff members will assist patrons upon their arrival at the Sheep Sheds. Seating on blankets will be in front; seating on low chairs behind blankets\, elevated chairs will be in rear. Space is limited\, and seating is first come first served. As there is no ADA parking close to the stage\, patrons requiring handicap access can make use of a Shuttle drop\, please let the parking attendant know upon arrival. Wine and beer will be available for purchase in the beer garden before the show and during intermission\, however\, no alcohol may be brought in by patrons. No pets\, smoking or vaping is allowed. Bloedel Reserve will enforce these regulations to ensure that all patrons are in compliance. Picnics will be permitted after 6 PM once patrons have been seated. \nINCLEMENT WEATHER \nPerformances will continue as scheduled in very light rain. In the event of more inclement weather\, performances will be canceled at the discretion of the production crew to ensure the safety and comfort of our performers and patrons. While we are unable to provide refunds for weather-related cancellations\, ticket holders for any canceled performances will be welcome to join us on another date of their choice.

DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness Meditation with Alexa Rosenthal: Nature\, Meditation & Sound\nNature provides the perfect setting for us to connect; to ourselves\, to the earth\, and to each other. Meditation is an invitation to practice compassionate awareness and acceptance of who we are and what is.  Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Bloedel Reserve\, Alexa will lead a mindfulness meditation in the Japanese Guest House incorporating poetry that speaks to the wisdom inherent in nature and sound bowls whose melodic vibrations can contribute to healing and deep relaxation. \nPlease dress comfortably and plan to meditate for at least 30 minutes\, seated in a chair.  \nWHERE   \nThis event is held indoors at the Japanese Guest House   \nWHEN   \nSept 2\, 1:15-2 PM \nCOST \n$20 Members\n$20 Non-members. SUMMARY:Fall Strolls for Well-Being
DESCRIPTION:Explore the trails as the leaves change…\nStrolls for Well-Being is a complimentary\, seasonal program at Bloedel Reserve that supports connection to nature through a series of 12 self-guided walks. \nWe invite anyone interested in finding new ways to nurture this connection to join the program. New participants receive a guidebook with instruction and inspiration for 12 distinct mindfulness-based walks through the Reserve. Each walk is built around themes such as awareness\, joy\, and gratitude\, and the walks are designed around the distinct garden spaces. \nParticipants become part of a small group that meets three times during the program\, for an orientation\, mid-point check-in\, and closing meeting. The meetings provide an opportunity to hear from others and share experiences. DESCRIPTION:Watercolor Landscapes with Laura Olesen-Berge (A two-part class) \nSeptember 9th: Discussion – Deconstructing a watercolor painting.\nThe first session will include a discussion around an artist’s considerations in creating a watercolor landscape painting. There are a variety of elements and skills that play a role in creating a successful painting: from image choice to type of paper\, from palette choices to how to fix mistakes (we all make them!)\, and the question of just how do you transfer a drawing onto watercolor paper? Community Creative Laura Olesen-Berge will take you through setting yourself up for success using what she has learned through practice over the years. \nSeptember 16: Workshop – Watercolor Painting\nTime to put your knowledge to work! Coming prepared with brushes\, paints\, a landscape photo to work from and a drawing already transferred to watercolor paper. DESCRIPTION:Follow the Sun Solstice Walk\nInspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin Yoku\, a forest therapy or “forest bathing” walk is designed to help you slow down\, drop into your senses and engage in core routines that intentionally deepen and cultivate a restorative connection with nature. Punctuating the spring and fall equinox and the summer solstice\, we invite you to “follow the sun” with certified Forest Therapy Guide\, Tina Guldhammer Frei. \nThroughout the walk\, Tina will offer a series of invitations that give you the opportunity to cultivate presence\, promote healing\, and actively connect with the land in ways you might not have tried before. SUMMARY:Learn from an Expert: Plein Air Painting
DESCRIPTION:Darrell Anderson\, assisted by Gigi Godfrey\, will be leading this Plein Air in the Gardens workshop. Darrell is known for his masterful landscapes and his accessible teaching. \nDarrell will present on gear and design principles and then do a demo for the class. Students will have plenty of time to paint while individual instruction is given. This class is geared to oil painting\, but people working in other mediums are welcome. \nBring your own art supplies\, a sack lunch and water bottle.
